Train length is a question of venue, not of taste. In a cathedral or a large hall it works; on grass or decking it collects whatever it meets. Check the surface in advance — it saves both nerves and cleaning bills.

And always ask about the bustle — the loop or buttons that lift the train after the ceremony. With one you dance all evening; without one you carry the train over your arm. A detachable train solves the same problem in a single movement.
